Unless you have chronic skin problems, the majority of those who are in their 20s are experiencing the peak of their skin’s condition. Hormones have stabilized from teen years, and the skin is supple enough to glow from within naturally.
However, whether you’re suffering from adult acne or not, you should still be mindful of your morning and evening routine to take care of your skin.
Caring for your skin at this stage will help you fight off early signs of aging and other common problems that those in their 30s or 40s face. Think of it as an investment—one that will surely pay off in the long run!
Below are some skincare tips you should try:
1). Make exfoliation part of your routine
Life in your 20s will not just comprise of going to school, occasional parties, and back home. Work will be stressful, there will be many errands you need to take care of, and you will soon realize you are always exposed to the elements outside.
Tons of dirt will build-up, and the best way to get rid of acne and blackheads is to exfoliate at least twice a week with gentle ingredients.
2). Invest in an eye cream
You will be thankful that you did! Your 20s are the best time to look for preventative products like an eye cream. The skin underneath the eyes is thin and delicate, meaning they are prone to fine lines and wrinkles, like crow’s feet, when you get older.
If you want to delay the appearance of those lines, using an eye cream should be part of your skincare arsenal instead of waiting for them to appear before you do anything about it.
There is also the case that you may be staying up late because of the million things you need to do and little time to accomplish them. There are eye creams that specifically target dark circles, so you can start treating them before they get more permanent.
3). Use sunscreen daily
You have probably seen the mention of sunscreen in a lot of skincare articles—there must be a reason for that, right? If you absolutely have to apply one product to your face each day, it will have to be sun protection. That is because skin aging is directly linked to sun exposure and damage.
Some of your existing skincare products may already include SPF, which is great. Make sure you also have a small bottle on the go in case you are staying out the entire day and you need to reapply.
4). Switch to hypoallergenic products
If your skin is sensitive, hypoallergenic products will save you from unwanted redness and irritation. This little trick will put an end to all of your skincare woes that seemingly spring out of nowhere, but is actually caused by your skin’s sensitivity.
You would want to extend this to the things you wear or sleep in at night. For instance, you can opt to use hypoallergenic pillows so that your face does not get irritated from your overnight beauty rest.
Coarse fibers on standard pillows may create micro-abrasions on the face, and non-hypoallergic variants may be made of irritating materials that you are not aware of.
5). Keep your steps simple
Try not to overload your skin with too many products. Instead, focus on the basics: cleanse and moisturize twice a day (morning and night), protect your skin from the sun, and do your exfoliation and mask treatments once or twice a week.
Lastly, choose products with ingredients that are compatible with your skin type.
Keep Caring for Your Skin
Skincare is an ongoing process, and you will come across tons of products that you will use and let go of throughout the years. Investing in a solid routine and great products today will save you a lot of work later down the road—and you will be happy you had a head start!
