Kolkata is the cheapest metro city to live in, in India. Not only the food, but the accommodation and even public transport are dirt cheap here. If you are fond of backpacking, Kolkata is your ideal stop because there are hotels where you can still find a room for Rs 400-500 for a night.
While I would recommend those hotels, there are certainly some very decent hotels within budget, all over Kolkata. Let me tell you about some of them.
1). Hotel Sita
If you are anywhere near Howrah Station and would like to stay near the station for any reason, this is the hotel you would want to try. Rated very highly on online travel portals (Yatra, MakeMyTrip, Goibibo and similar), this hotel offers more than decent accommodation at pretty low rates. The rooms are spacious and well decorated and have basic amenities like TV, AC, attached bathroom with running hot water and you can use the hotel restaurant for lunch or dinner.
The bellboys are multilingual and approachable, there is doctor on call, the hotel arranges for rented cars and the desk is 24X7. Moreover, the view is rather nice and Ganga nearby is a source of constant fresh air.
2). Astaria Hotel
The choice was tough because this is central Kolkata and here you will find all the hotels in Kolkata, bewildering you with choices. I chose Astaria because we are discussing budget hotels here. It doesn’t mean I chose the lowest available price, Astaria Hotel is actually very nice accommodation on Sudder Street from where Park Street and New Market are both walking distance. Astaria offers all the common necessities for a comfortable stay and pretty quiet from the usual Din and bustle of Kolkata.
3). Innra Hotel
If you are looking for accommodation in North Kolkata, it would be safe to assume that you are looking for rooms near Sealdah Station and that is where this little gem is located. This is a pretty new hotel and that explains the interior being in prim condition.
This is located 5 minutes from Sealdah, beside the AJC Bose flyover. Here you will find every type of cuisine— Bengali, Indian, Chinese and continental and the hotel takes pride in its kitchen. However, accommodation is our prime objective and the rooms are really well kept here. You will find every amenity you would want for a comfortable stay.
4). Treebo Casa Broadway
Don’t ask me what the name means but I can tell you one thing; this is the best value for money hotel you will find in South Kolkata. They have parking lot, are close to Kalighat Kali temple and Jadabpur University. They have very well decorated rooms, TV, AC, Wi-Fi and even a kettle for your untimely tea or coffee. This is very highly rated hotel on Yatra as well. The bellboys and the front desk are always at your service to keep you comfortable.
5). The Majestic Suites
The air traveller to Kolkata would, of course, look for accommodation near the airport and there are some really good hotels here. I chose The Majestic Suites because it gives you luxury accommodation within budget. The hotel is only 3 kms from the airport with taxis and cars always being available. The rooms are spacious, well decorated, well attended and I would strongly recommend their room service which is simply awesome. The food is decent enough and this is basically a business hotel.
That’s it. I have covered every part of Kolkata so you can use the information to find good and budget hotels in Kolkata. These hotels are affordable, well located and well within budget, thus, making it to my list. Sometimes, you are not satisfied in a 5 star hotel and sometimes, you love an inn. It all depends on the particular stay. I hope your stay in these hotels would be a pleasant experience for you.
