When one thinks of Monaco, it is easy for thoughts to turn towards fast cars and superyachts. The principality is a haven for UHNWI, and known for its glitzy charm. It is all too easy to remain unaware of the fact that Monaco is a wonderful place to raise a family.

The closest Italian town, Ventimiglia, is less than 30 minutes from Monaco and has a wonderful weekend flower and food market. AS Monaco FC also have youth programs, and the local Athletics Club host numerous races throughout the year.

The proximity to the Alps also allows for some excellent hiking and mountain biking in the summer months, and during the winter you can be on the slopes of Isola 2000 and Auron in less than two hours.

Close-by you can also visit the Prince’s Palace of Monaco to see where the Monegasque Royal Family live; indeed, you can see HSH Prince Albert II driving around Monaco on a daily basis, and the whole Royal Family are present at the annual, and world-famous, Monte-Carlo Circus.

For those who like exploring, the caves of the Jardin Exotique de Monaco cannot be missed, offering views out to sea and over the Principality which are absolutely stunning, especially at sunset.


At only 2.02km2, it is easy to uphold the safety of the Principality. CCTV covers the whole of Monaco, and there is 1 (very polite) policeman per 100 residents. Crime is at an absolute minimum, making it a very safe environment for children, and English is spoken by the majority of locals should you get lost.


The healthcare facilities in Monaco are second-to-none, with many world-class and award-winning doctors and surgeons having practices here. The main hospital, Princess Grace, is large and pleasant, and you will be seen and treated very quickly indeed.


Monaco enjoys an exceptional schooling system, with 7 nursery and primary schools, one secondary school, and one lycee (college). There is also the superb International School of Monaco, which has bilingual schooling (in French and English), and offers the International Baccalaureate. It is a very popular school, which has entered a majority of its students into top universities worldwide, and provides a wonderfully diverse education.
