A Simple Guide To Simplify Your Wardrobe

A Simple Guide To Simplify Your Wardrobe

Ok… maybe that might be too much to ask for from most women, but the truth is you get really annoyed when you can’t find THAT one piece of clothing you just remembered you had and you now you want to wear it to work today, no? Well, you can thank all the useless clutter of clothes, shoes, bags and accessories that you have stashed in an overflowing closet.

Here’s a piece of advice; your closet a great place to store things. But if you’ve got way too much clutter in there, not only will you make it difficult for yourself to sift through things, but you’ll also be wasting prime storage real estate. So open that closet and throw out everything to filter out what you should put back in and what you shouldn’t. Here are a few simple guidelines to follow.

Donate the ones still new and deflowered

Still tagged is more like it! There’s an old saying that goes something like this – “Charity begins at home.” And as beautiful an idea that sounds, I’m pretty sure a lot of women are already dying from their insides at just the thought of that brilliant idea. You probably have plenty of clothes lying in your wardrobe that you’ve never ever worn because you either don’t have something to pair them with, or your decision was way too impulsive. But hey, the one thing that you gotta realize is that ‘just because you bought’ it isn’t good enough of a reason to keep it. If the tag’s still on, maybe that’s a sign that it was never meant for you in the first place. Gift it to someone else on their birthday; that’ll help you save some money too.

Throw out the ‘too loose’

Moving on from the virgin stuff, it’s time to take out the stuff that’s too loose.  Alright, so I get it, you’ve lost weight. That’s a really good thing and you definitely deserve a pat on the back. But here’s a question; if you’ve put in so much effort to shed all those extra kilos, why is it so hard to put in a little more and trash the clothes that you no longer fit in – correction, the clothes that don’t fit you? It makes absolutely no sense keeping all those sizes that are too big for you now unless of course you plan on gaining weight again, which is highly unlikely. So please, do yourself a favor and pass them on to a friend who isn’t as motivated as you to lose weight. Alternatively, you could even convert extra loose T-shirts into seamless tote bags – if you have any that is.

Too tight to fit into goes out as well

“Oh never mind, I’ll wait till I fit into it.” Really? Yea, I know where that’s headed! Number one; you should more concerned with what looks good on you and what you fit into RIGHT NOW. Number two; honey, stop kidding yourself and telling others that you’ll lose more weight. And even if you do by some miracle, that’s the moment when you should be treating yourself with something brand new as opposed to something you’ve been saving for a couple of months, or years. But for the moment, stocking ‘too tight’ and ‘too lose’ is just a waste of really good closet space that can be used for other purposes especially if you’re short on rental space.

If it’s still unmatched, it’s probably better off

BLASPHEMY! You cannot have anything in your wardrobe that has nothing to go with it. If it’s a top, it needs to have a pair of matching trousers, and if it’s a bag, then it has to have a pair of matching shoes. So the next time you go shopping, make sure you’re armed with a strategic shopping list to avoid orphans in your wardrobe. And for the unmatched items of fashion that already exist, you can either buy something that matches them the next time you visit the mall, or give them away. Since I’m dishing out advice on how to declutter your wardrobe, the latter is the option to consider.

Don’t stock too much of the same color

Black is a fashion essential, and most will say that there’s no such thing as too less of it in your wardrobe. Truth is, unless you’ve just jumped out of some sci-fi flick in which everyone and their mother wears black and only black, stocking your wardrobe with just one color is one of the most unfashionable things to do. Be it black or your favorite color, too much of one color is boring and overkill. Pick out all of the items of the same color, select the ones that you know you’ll utilize frequently, and give the rest away. That way you can at least diversify with the hues in your wardrobe if you’re still not too keen on keeping it simple and tidy.

Worn out is out

Also, you might want to give the clothes that you wear regularly a second look. Sometimes you don’t realize it, but the clothes you wear regularly tend to lose durability faster. Naturally, those clothes are subjected to more wear and tear. That’s perfectly alright, but as a working individual, you need to be even more careful. You’re better off ditching your worn out clothes at the right time before you experience some mega embarrassment by wearing a severely damaged piece to a party.

A few good dresses

Cocktail, sequins, and little black dresses; every woman loves dresses, and loves shopping for dresses online. But have you ever taken a look into the number of dresses that you’ve bought for just that one occasion like a bridesmaid dress or some festive party with a fancy dress code? And I bet that there are plenty of such dresses hanging around in your wardrobe – enough to fund a mini-vacation considering their aggregate worth. Well, to tell you the truth, yes, a few good dresses wouldn’t hurt, but you need to draw a line as to how much is a few good. The rest, especially the ones you know you’re never going to wear again, just get rid of them and free your closet space.

And once you’re done, I’m pretty sure you’ll have enough space in your wardrobe to hide the body of an ex – not that that’s encouraged!
