Although there are a variety of things that people need to do in order to ensure that they look their best, protecting the teeth is particularly important. Unfortunately, there are a plethora of bad habits that many people engage in which destroy the teeth.
Despite this fact, however, there are solutions that you can implement to prevent yourself from destroying your teeth through bad habits. Here are several bad habits that destroy your teeth as well as the solution that can prevent you from doing so, provided by San Antonio dentist, Dr. Craig Carlson.
1. Coffee.
Although coffee is an incredibly popular drink to consume, many people don’t recognize that drinking the substance consistently can stain their teeth. Sometimes people realize how damaging coffee can be to their teeth and they subsequently cease drinking the substance. However, many people love coffee and are not willing to give it up in order to protect their teeth. If this is the case for you, you can simply drink your coffee through a straw so the dark liquid doesn’t stain your pearly whites.
2. Chewing On Ice.
Chewing on ice is a habit that many people pick up to relieve stress or prevent boredom. And while it can be effective for curing either condition, chewing on ice is horrible for the teeth because it can cause them to become chipped or cracked. In recognizing this reality, individuals who find the act of chewing ice pleasurable or somehow beneficial should know that they can chew gum instead.
3. Drinking Soda.
Although many people drink soda religiously, doing so is not a good idea for several reasons. Outside of the health problems that arise from consuming excessive amounts of sugar, constantly drinking soda can cause a coating of sugar and acids to collect on your teeth. Once this happens on a continual basis, the build-up can cause your teeth to slowly but surely rot. In order to avoid this debilitating effect of soda, switch to a healthier option that won’t harm your teeth such as all-natural fruit juice.
4. Opening Things With Your Teeth.
Opening things with the teeth may be the most common ways that individuals destroy their teeth. Whether you’re in the habit of popping bottle caps off with your teeth or opening other objects in this way, know that the end result can be unsightly cracks or chips in your teeth. Since this is the case, you should do all that you can to rid yourself of this potentially debilitating habit. One of the best ways to accomplish this objective would be to avoid using products that you would be inclined to open with your teeth. If you feel the need to continue using products that don’t come with lids or tops that can be opened easily, remember that it takes 21 days to form a habit and be conscious about the need to modify your behavior in order to protect your teeth.
If you are interested in looking and feeling your best as frequently as possible, you should know that taking great care of your teeth is a wonderful way to accomplish this goal. To make it happen, consider implementing some or all of the suggestions listed above so you’re not continually engaging in behaviors that can destroy your teeth. In so doing, you’ll find that your pearly whites become one of the best beauty-enhancing aspects of your physical appearance. Good luck!
