Why the Radio will not go away any time soon

Why the Radio will not go away any time soonThere was a time when radio was the dominant medium for entertainment and music, serving as the only way- outside of live performances- to listen to songs and shows. When TV came along, everyone thought that radios were going to die out- there was now a much better and more engaging way to get entertainment, after all. But radio survived the TV boom. And when home record players were perfected, society thought once again thought that radio was doomed. Yet people continued to tune in to their favorite stations to catch all of the latest music. The same was true for cassettes and CD’s, but through it all, radio kept going strong.

With the continued development of devices such as iPod’s and smartphones, there is once again a belief that radio is doomed. After all, with the ability to conjure customised entertainment at any second from any location, society has little need for a medium that is unpredictable and littered with ads… right? Actually, nothing could be further from the truth. Radio is going stronger than ever, mostly thanks to the invention of digital radio. Now, through the power of the internet, people have access to thousands of radio channels from anywhere in the world. No longer are you limited to the radio stations in your city; if you like a certain station from some other part of the world, you can listen in from the comfort of your own home or car!

Many digital radios now also feature recording and scheduling options which means you will never miss your favourite radio show again. It also means you can schedule to record interviews and radio talks ahead of time. Think of it as an audio DVR.

Another fantastic thing about digital radio is that it is so much clearer and higher-quality than traditional radio. You can hear all of your favorite songs the way that they were meant to be heard, with deep bass and smooth trebles carrying you through the melodies. The best way to experience these crisp sounds is with a good pair of headphones, which will enhance your radio experience even more. The Sennheiser px360 headphones, for instance, provide you with a totally unique way to listen to and enjoy radio. The sound quality that they provide is unrivaled, and you will be sure to have a whole new appreciation for radio and how far it has come after using them.

I’m glad that someone has written about this topic. I have been in radio for 13 years and I have heard the “end of radio” every year since I started. For a while, I thought people were right and I began to worry about my place in radio. However, after the recent events in Boston, I realized that radio couldn’t be more relevant and important to getting news anywhere in the world–especially when it came to this tragic and breaking news.

While elements of podcasting are on the rise, it still doesn’t replace that “local” feeling you get from radio stations in other parts of the world.

Thank you for writing this piece.
