Have you been in one of those moods lately? We describe them as “being in a funk”. You are mostly negative, don’t feel motivated to do anything and just can’t seem to put a happy face on.
Here are just a few of the things I have found to get myself out of that self-deprecating mood. Try them. See if they work for you too.
1. Take a bath.
It is almost impossible to not feel bliss after a nice warm bath. Get yourself some of those lavender or vanilla bath sense and jump on in. I guarantee your bad mood with disappear.
2. Eat Chocolate.
Break out the chocolate bar and have a snack. It is just a proven fact that chocolate cures a bad mood, has anti-depressive effects, and lets just be honest, it simply tastes good.
3. Do something that never fails to make YOU look better.
When you are in a funk, you’re probably laying around the house in pajamas, being lazy. After you take a shower, put on some make up. Glam yourself up a bit. Even if you aren’t going anywhere, put on clean clothes and spruce yourself up a bit. I know when I look better, I feel better.
4. Be around people that adore you.
It’s hard to be negative around people that love you, and show it. You can try it on your own for awhile, but making yourself be with loved ones reminds you how lucky you are to have good family and/or friends that care about you.
5. Call someone that make you laugh.
I’m lucky that I have a few good friends who never fail to make me laugh. So when I am feeling down about something, one of the things I do, is call them. They can usually bring a smile to my face, regardless of what is bothering me.
6. Keep A Journal.
Sit down for 15 minutes and write about everything that is stressing you out or bringing you down. Get it out, feel it, and think about it. When you write regularly in journal, it helps you to own your emotions and then let it go. Sometimes we feel worse because something is wrong, but we keep going on and try to ignore it. Journaling how you feel is therapeutic, and makes you realize things that you never would have, if you didn’t get it out of your head and on to paper.
7. Be grateful.
Shift your focus to something positive. Write down three things that you are grateful for right now in this moment. Even if you aren’t in a positive mood, there is always something to be grateful for. I guarantee you will be able to find at least three things to give thanks for at this moment.
8. Listen to happy music.
Make a play list of only upbeat music, and play it loud. Listen to your favorite upbeat song. It is almost impossible to feel bad, when your favorite tune is playing. Music just naturally makes us happy.
9. Exercise.
I list this one last because I know how hard it is to motivate yourself to get up and get moving when you are in a funk. I deal with this almost daily. However, once you have programmed your mind to stop being negative and just walk a few minutes, you start to realize, exercise makes you feel better. You naturally feel good about yourself when you are moving. Tell yourself whatever you must to start. But realize, once you start, you might not be able to stop until you are happy and out of that funk again.
So when you are feeling down, get this list of happy ideas out and go do one of them or all of them. I can bet you will start to feel that smile coming on, before you know it.
